President Donald Trump signed a groundbreaking Executive Order on January 23 aimed at maintaining the United States’ position as the global leader in Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The Order, issued by the White House, emphasizes the nation’s commitment to AI innovation, underscoring the importance of fostering a competitive, ideologically neutral environment for technological advancements.
In the text of the Order, President Trump asserted that AI has become a critical driver of economic growth, national security, and global influence. He emphasized that the U.S. has long been a leader in AI, a position the administration is determined to retain by developing technologies free from ideological bias or social engineering.
“To maintain this leadership, we must develop AI systems that are free from ideological bias or engineered social agendas,” Trump wrote. “With the right government policies, we can solidify our position as the global leader in AI and secure a brighter future for all Americans.”
The Executive Order revokes specific policies and directives put in place under the previous administration, clearing the way for more proactive steps to advance U.S. dominance in AI. According to the document, the goal is to promote human flourishing, economic competitiveness, and national security through strategic innovation and regulatory alignment.
The Order sets a clear path forward with key steps. Within 180 days, a comprehensive AI Action Plan will be developed by senior officials, including the Assistant to the President for Science and Technology and the Special Advisor for AI and Crypto. This plan is expected to outline concrete measures to achieve the policy objectives laid out in the Executive Order.
One immediate change involves the review of previous AI policies, particularly those established under Executive Order 14110, which sought to regulate the safe development and use of AI. The new Order calls for a thorough review of these policies, with an emphasis on suspending or revising any actions that may hinder the nation’s ability to innovate in the AI field.
To ensure a swift and effective implementation, the Order also directs the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to revise relevant memoranda within 60 days, aligning them with the new AI policy.
While the Order provides broad authority to make these changes, it also includes provisions safeguarding the functions and authorities of other government agencies, ensuring that the Executive Order will be implemented within the confines of existing law.
This latest move reflects President Trump’s ongoing commitment to bolstering American technological leadership on the global stage, particularly in sectors crucial to economic and national security interests.
The Executive Order is part of a broader strategy to foster innovation, ensuring that the United States remains at the forefront of the artificial intelligence revolution in the years to come
